At least 20 killed at shooting rampage at Las Vegas concert-YAHOONEWS-October 2, 2017-By Devika Krishna Kumar

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (Reuters) - A gunman opened fire at a country music festival on the Las Vegas Strip on Sunday, killing at least 20 people and wounding more than 100 others before the suspect was killed by police.Police described the suspect as being a local Las Vegas man who acted alone, Sheriff Joseph Lombardo of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said at a briefing. But authorities were seeking an Asian female who police described as a companion of the suspect, he said. They said that rumours of other shootings in the area were false. Off-duty police were believe to be among the victims.Witnesses on social media said the shooting broke out on the last night of the three-day Route 91 Harvest festival, a sold-out event attended by thousands and featuring top acts such as Eric Church, Sam Hunt and Jason Aldean.U.S. media, including Fox News, reported that Aldean was performing around 10:45 p.m. local time on Sunday when the rampage began but that he had been bundled safely off stage at the event outside the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in the Nevada gambling mecca. CNN reported all the artists were safe.Las Vegas is an internationally renowned major resort city, known primarily for its gambling, shopping and entertainment.Police have disclosed no information that would suggest a motive for the shooting or revealed the identify of the suspect.Even so, the rampage was reminiscent of a mass shooting at a Paris rock concert in November 2015 that killed 89 people, part of a coordinated attack by Islamist militants that left 130 dead.(Editing by Chris Michaud and Frank McGurty in New York; writing by Alison Williams; Editing by John Stonestreet and Frank McGurty)

Two killed, 24 wounded in Las Vegas shooting: hospital--YAHOONEWS-October 2, 2017

(Reuters) - At least two people were killed and 24 were hospitalised after a shooting at a country music festival in Las Vegas, a local hospital spokeswoman said, and police said one suspect was down. The spokeswoman for the University Medical Center hospital said 14 of the wounded were in a critical condition. All had suffered gunshot wounds, she said.Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said on Twitter: "Confirming that one suspect is down. This is an active investigation. Again, please do not head down to the Strip at this time."It was not immediately clear whether the suspect was killed or injured. Officers were due to give more information shortly.Police had earlier said they were investigating reports of an active shooter near the Mandalay Bay Casino. The New York Times reported that the shooting appeared to be at a country music festival and that police were investigating reports of shooting at other venues on the city's famous strip.Police made no immediate comment about that on social media. One Twitter user posted that the casino hotel was on lockdown, while another, citing police scanners, said two gunmen who had shot at a bodyguard and police were on the 32nd floor.Video clips posted online showed what sounded like automatic weapons as panicked concertgoers fled, dropped to the ground screaming.Witnesses heard numerous gunshots at the hotel, where police tactical teams were searching for the attacker, according to reports on CNN and in the New York Times.Flights at Mccarran International Airport were temporarily halted after the reported shooting, the airport said on Twitter.(Editing by Chris Michaud and Frank McGurty in New York; writing by Alison Williams; Editing by John Stonestreet)

Multiple victims hospitalized after shooting in Las Vegas--YAHOONEWS-October 2, 2017

LAS VEGAS — Multiple victims were being transported to hospitals after a shooting late Sunday at a music festival on the Las Vegas Strip.Dozens of patrol vehicles descended on the Strip after authorities received reports of an active shooter near the Route 91 Harvest Festival.Concert-goers reported seeing muzzle flashes from the upper floors of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino across Las Vegas Boulevard from the country music festival and the sound of what they described as automatic gun fire.Witnesses said they saw multiple victims as they fled the gunfire raining down on the concert venue. Some later huddled in the basement of the nearby Tropicana hotel-casino.Some officers took cover behind their vehicles while others carrying assault rifles ran into the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino.University Medical Center spokeswoman Danita Cohen said the Las Vegas hospital is taking in "several" people with gunshot wounds. She didn't have any other immediate information.Authorities shut down part of the Las Vegas Strip and Interstate 15.Some flights destined for the McCarran International Airport were diverted due to the shooting.Witnesses say country singer Jason Aldean was playing near the end of the concert when gunfire rang out.No further information was immediately known. The Associated Press

Suspect facing terrorism charges in Edmonton truck attack investigated in 2015-October 1, 2017

EDMONTON — Mounties say the man accused of attacking a police officer and running down four pedestrians with a rental truck in a dramatic late-night downtown chase is a Somali refugee once investigated for espousing extremism.RCMP assistant commissioner Marlin Degrand said the suspect, 30, was checked thoroughly in 2015 and deemed at that time to not pose a threat."There was insufficient evidence to pursue terrorism charges or a peace bond," Degrand said Sunday. "The suspect was actually not deemed at that time to pose a threat to the security of Canada."Degrand said files on the suspect were kept and shared with other intelligence and police agencies after 2015, but said that was as much as the law would allow."We didn't have sufficient evidence to warrant continued investigation of that individual following the 2015 (check)," he said.Police did not name the suspect, who they said was arrested with an Islamic state flag in one of his vehicles.Degrand initially said was the suspect was the process of making a refugee claim in Canada, but a spokesman with the federal Public Safety Department later clarified that he had already been found to be a refugee by the Immigration and Refugee Board. He is facing a number of charges, including five counts of attempted murder, dangerous driving and participation in a terrorist activity.Edmonton Police Chief Rod Knecht said, so far, it appears the suspect does not have any co-conspirators."From all indications it appears that this was a single individual acting alone," said Knecht. "We have no reason to believe that there is any threat to our city."The attacks began around 8:15 Saturday night near Commonwealth Stadium, just north of downtown, during a game between the CFL's Edmonton Eskimos and Winnipeg Blue Bombers. It was military appreciation night. Canada's chief of defence staff, Gen. Jonathan Vance, conducted the pregame coin flip and two CF-18 fighter jets did a fly-past before kickoff.Outside the stadium, Edmonton police Const. Mike Chernyk, with his marked, flashing cruiser was handling crowd control and security when a speeding white Chevy Malibu rammed through a barrier and hit his car, sending him flying five metres through the air.The driver then got out, pulled out a large knife and began stabbing him. Knecht said Chernyk, a 10-year-veteran, fought back, forcing the suspect to flee on foot."He was in a struggle for his life, holding onto his gun with one hand and blocking the knife with his other," said Knecht. "It's a testament to his experience and training that he survived."Knecht said Chernyk has since been released from hospital and is expected to make a full recovery."He has stab wounds on his face and head from the knife and significant abrasions on his arms as a result of being hit by the car."Chernyk managed to radio in what had happened and the manhunt was on.Police set up checkpoints and began stopping cars, leading to a second encounter hours later with the suspect, now driving a U-haul cube van, east of the stadium just after midnight.Knecht said when the U-haul pulled over for the checkpoint, the driver produced identification linking him to the registered owner of the Malibu. He became suspicious when police held him up, and decided to flee. The U-Haul then sped off toward Jasper Avenue, downtown Edmonton's main east-west thoroughfare, with multiple police cars in pursuit.Knecht said the suspect drove in the opposite lane, almost T-boned a vehicle and purposely drove into pedestrians, injuring four.He said the call was made to keep the high-speed pursuit through the downtown, busy with late night bar and night-club goers, because of the threat posed by the suspect.Of the four pedestrians, two suffered head injuries including a skull fracture. Two have been released from hospital."Their injuries range from broken bones to brain bleeds," said Knecht. He said officers used a "tactical manoeuvre" to force the truck to crash onto its side just south of Jasper Avenue. Officers smashed through the windshield and tossed in a stun grenade to distract the driver. When he resisted, they used a stun gun to make the arrest."No shots were fired. In fact, no shots were fired anywhere in this entire incident," said Knecht.Austin Elgie, manager of The Pint bar, saw the van zoom by with police giving chase. The van "peeled" into an alley where people were smoking, he said."There were like 10 cop cars following him ... It was crazy. It just came around the corner, ripping. I thought at first he was pulling over for the cops coming by, but he was clearly the one they were chasing."Alberta Premier Rachel Notley called the attacks horrific."Hatred has no place in Alberta. It's not who we are," Notley said Sunday.Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also condemned the violent events as a "terrorist attack" and a "senseless act of violence.""We cannot — and will not — let violent extremism take root in our communities," he said.In the United States, President Donald Trump's press secretary issued a statement saying "Law enforcement authorities from the United States are in touch with their Canadian counterparts to offer assistance with the ongoing investigation."Edmonton Mayor Don Iveson urged calm and compassion."It is vital now that we not succumb to hatred, that we not be intimidated by violence," said Iveson. "Terrorism is about creating panic and about sowing divide and about disrupting people's lives."We can succumb to that or we can rise above it."— With files from Jennifer Graham in Regina and Andy Blatchford in Ottawa-Dean Bennett, John Cotter, Rob Drinkwater and Chris Purdy , The Canadian Press.

THE FIRST JUDGEMENT OF THE EARTH STARTED WITH WATER-IT ONLY MAKES SENSE THE LAST GENERATION WILL BE HAVING FLOODING
GENESIS 7:6-12
6 And Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth.
7 And Noah went in, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him, into the ark, because of the waters of the flood.
8 Of clean beasts, and of beasts that are not clean, and of fowls, and of every thing that creepeth upon the earth,
9 There went in two and two unto Noah into the ark, the male and the female, as God had commanded Noah.
10 And it came to pass after seven days, that the waters of the flood were upon the earth.
11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.
12 And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.
GOD PROMISED BY A RAINBOW-THE EARTH WOULD NEVER BE DESTROYED TOTALLY WITH A FLOOD AGAIN.BUT FLOODIING IS A SIGN OF JUDGEMENT.

Puerto Rico governor says relief arriving to storm-ravaged rural areas-YAHOONEWS-October 1, 2017-By Nick Brown and Robin Respaut

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (Reuters) - Puerto Rico’s governor says efforts to restore cell service, gas and other basic needs to the island’s rural residents are progressing, even as many in those towns report feeling forgotten.“I recognize that right now, whether it’s the gas line or the ATM line, we’re limited,” Governor Ricardo Rossello told Reuters in an interview on Saturday at the Puerto Rico Convention Center, the government’s temporary headquarters.“But if you see the numbers,” he said, “you see there is a steady path to improvement.”More than half of Puerto Rico’s 3.4 million people lack access to drinking water 11 days after Hurricane Maria hit the U.S. territory, and 95 percent remain without power, according to the U.S. Defense Department. Some are expected to be without power for months. But on Saturday, Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) officials reported that a third of the island’s telecommunications network had been restored, and some 765 gas stations - well over half - had fuel, though it was not clear how much.Maria, the most powerful storm to strike Puerto Rico in nearly 90 years, has destroyed roads, making it difficult to get food, water and fuel around the island. In the rural towns of Salinas and Fajardo, the vast majority of locals reported having no cell service on Friday and Saturday, and said they had not seen local or federal officials in the area. In Fajardo, some 400 people waited on line to enter a Wal-Mart store Saturday morning, while gas lines stretched more than a mile in some parts of town.“We haven’t seen a government official or anything, no FEMA, no military, no local government,” said Daniel Santiago, 51, of Fajardo, as he waited in line to get into a food store.Rossello, though, challenged the idea that the government is failing to reach rural towns - a perception he says might be fueled by a “severe limitation with communication.”“I personally went to Salinas with seven National Guard trucks full of food and water,” he said, conceding that “you can always find somebody that hasn’t received resources, and I recognize that.”Government response to the disaster has become a focal point in recent days, with U.S. President Donald Trump facing harsh criticism from many Puerto Ricans and leaders, including San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz, for failing to deploy U.S. military resources more quickly.Trump fired back at Cruz in a tweet, accusing her of “poor leadership” and saying some Puerto Ricans “want everything to be done for them when it should be a community effort.”The tweet offended some Puerto Ricans, but Rossello refused to criticize the president.“My only focus right now is to make sure the people of Puerto Rico are well,” Rossello said. “I’m not paying attention to social media.”Pressed on the tweet, the governor said the president's words were not aimed at Puerto Rican citizens. “When I read that tweet … I didn’t see it as assigned to the people of Puerto Rico, I saw it as a personal difference with the mayor of San Juan.”With his island still in desperate need of financial and infrastructure aid, the governor faces a balancing act in remaining on good terms with Trump, even as many of his constituents oppose him. Trump will visit the island on Tuesday. The governor has had his hands full since the storm, saying he slept just three hours - combined - in five days after Maria hit.(Editing by Mary Milliken)
