Record-breaking wet day for Metro Vancouver-[CBC]-May 28, 2016-yahoonews
It's been a soggy Saturday for most of Metro Vancouver. Between midnight and noon on May 28, Vancouver Harbour was soaked by 30.7 millimetres of rain — making it the wettest day of the year so far.The last time the city saw such heavy rainfall was January 21 when 29.9 millimetres fell within a 24-hour period.Vancouver wasn't the only area to get hit hard by the rain; South Burnaby recorded 42.6 millimetres and and Mt. Strachan on the North Shore received 39.7 millimetres. After many dry days in May, trees with rain-laden leaves came down and sports teams saw their games washed away. The City of Vancouver's pop-up city hall event at Collingwood Days shut down early because of the heavy rain while Port Moody police said they received a number of reports of flooding and cars spinning out. But, not everyone was deterred by the soggy weather.New Westminster's Hyack Parade saw a drop in attendance but marched ahead with participants wearing ponchos and using umbrellas. With temperatures down across the province, precipitation has been falling as snow in some northern parts of B.C., with 10 to 20 centimetres expected before the storm system moves along. However, the worst has passed as skies will clear on Sunday and sunshine and summer-like temperatures are in the works for next week for much of the province.
Storm reaches South Carolina shore-[The Canadian Press]-The Associated Press-May 29, 2016-yahoonews
CHARLESTON, S.C. - Tropical Depression Bonnie reached the South Carolina coast early Sunday, bringing heavy rain and rough tides to an area packed with tourists for the Memorial Day weekend. The National Hurricane Center said the centre of the storm made landfall just east of Charleston, South Carolina, on the Isle of Palms around 8:30 a.m.Forecasters say up to 8 inches of rain have fallen in parts of southern South Carolina. A flash flood warning was issued for Jasper County, where highway workers reported water to part of Interstate 95. About 3 inches of rain fell in Charleston in 24 hours and more is expected, according to the National Weather Service.A flash flood warning was also issued for portions of Charleston, Dorchester, Beaufort and Berkeley counties.Rescue crews in Carolina Beach south of Wilmington, North Carolina, are looking for a 21-year-old man who disappeared Saturday evening while swimming with two friends who made it back to shore safely, according to the Carolina Beach Police Department.Further north, up to 3 inches was expected across southeastern North Carolina. On Saturday, heavy rain and dangerous surf kept people off the Georgia, South Carolina and southern North Carolina beaches. No evacuations had been ordered.Officials in Charleston were monitoring the winds. The area has 15 bridges over water than are at least 65-feet tall that are closed when winds get 40 mph or above.Forecasters said an isolated tornado or two will be possible early Sunday over the immediate coastal region from central South Carolina through southern North Carolina.Near Myrtle Beach, authorities said they were worried mostly about heavy rain causing dangerous driving conditions as thousands of bikers and their motorcycles make their annual trip to the area. The first Atlantic storm of 2016 was Hurricane Alex, which made an unseasonable debut in January over the far eastern Atlantic. The storm was the first hurricane to form in the Atlantic in January since 1938 and made landfall in the Azores on Jan. 15.
At least two killed, others missing in Texas flooding-[Reuters]-By Marcus E. Howard-May 27, 2016-yahoonews
(Reuters) - At least two people person were killed and three others missing on Friday as record rainfall and severe flooding hit hard parts of southeast Texas, officials said.A record 16.6 inches (42 cm) of rain fell in Brenham, about 80 miles (130 km) west of Houston, on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS), which posted flash flood watches in some parts of southeast Texas for Friday.A cluster of thunderstorms was moving southeast over Houston and toward western Louisiana on Friday afternoon before they were expected to move off the Gulf Coast, NWS meteorologist Brynn Kerr said on Friday. One person was killed overnight in a drowning incident in the eastern part of Washington County, located about half-way between Austin and Houston, according to Brenham officials. A second death earlier on Friday was believed to have been caused by a heart attack shortly after the victim's vehicle was carried through high water.A 21-year-old man was reported missing after his pickup truck was found near a highway, Brenham Fire Chief Ricky Boeker said on Friday afternoon.Since Thursday, there have been about 45 water rescues of people in Washington County, officials said.Public schools in Brenham were closed on Friday, according to the school district.Over the past two days, heavy rains in the central United States have caused floods that have covered roadways and forced multiple evacuations. Tornados have uprooted trees, caused power outages and damaged homes in parts of Texas and Kansas, according to media reports. In Bastrop County, just outside of Austin, about 100 homes were damaged and evacuated overnight, said Sissy Jones, a sheriff's office spokeswoman. County Judge Paul Pape was expected to declare a disaster to tap emergency funds, she said.Residents of the county, which has a population of about 80,500, were advised on Facebook to boil drinking and cooking water after water main breaks due to heavy rainfall. In Travis County, which includes the state capital of Austin, two people were reported missing, said Jacob Dirr, a spokesman for the city.Earlier, nine people and two dogs were rescued by helicopter with some hoisted from their vehicles, he said. About 75 people had received assistance in evacuating their homes for higher ground, he said.(Reporting by Marcus Howard in New York; Editing by Frances Kerry and Sandra Maler)
Factbox: More active Atlantic hurricane season seen for 2016-[Reuters]-May 27, 2016-yahoonews
(Reuters) - With the start of the 2016 hurricane season less than a week away and a possible storm already brewing off the U.S. East Coast, most meteorologists agree that this year will be more active than last year, in part because of the expected end of the El Niño weather phenomenon and the coming of La Niña.El Niño is a warming of the water in the central Pacific Ocean and has been linked to weak hurricane seasons such as the one in 2015. La Niña, a cooling of those same waters, has been linked to more active hurricane seasons. The U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) on Friday predicted a 70 percent likelihood of 10 to 16 named storms with winds of 39 miles per hour (63 km per hour) or stronger, of which four to eight could become hurricanes with winds of 74 mph or stronger, including one to four major hurricanes with winds of 111 mph or more. The current El Niño, which started early in 2015, was the strongest since 1997. It is expected to end in the late spring or early summer, according to the U.S. Climate Prediction Center. The 2015 hurricane season was mostly quiet, due in part to the strong El Niño. There were 11 named storms, including four hurricanes, of which two were major, according to federal data. The system brewing north of the Bahamas has a 90 percent chance of developing into a tropical storm over the next day or two as it moves toward South Carolina, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center.Hurricanes do not pack the same punch for the U.S. natural gas market as a decade ago because the bulk of the nation's production has moved from the storm-prone Gulf of Mexico to shale fields located far from the coast, such as the Marcellus formation in Pennsylvania and West Virginia.U.S. gas futures hit record highs of around $15 per million British thermal units in 2005 in the months after hurricanes Katrina and Rita slammed into the Gulf Coast. At that time, more than 20 percent of U.S. dry gas output came from the federal waters in the Gulf of Mexico.Spurred in part by those high prices, producers figured out how to free gas trapped in shale rocks economically, with technologies such as horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing sparking the so-called shale revolution.Today, the seven biggest U.S. shale fields provide more than 60 percent of the nation's dry gas production, while federal waters in the Gulf of Mexico account for a mere 4 percent.Below are meteorologists' forecasts for named tropical storms and hurricanes in the North Atlantic, Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico for the June 1-Nov. 30 season.Forecaster Named Hurricanes Major Date-Storms Hurricanes-U.S. NOAA 10-16 4-8 1-4 27-May-Tropical Storm Risk (TSR) 17 9 4 27-May-IBM's The Weather Co 14 8 3 27-Apr-North Carolina State University 15-18 8-11 3-5 15-Apr-Colorado State University 12 5 2 14-Apr-Global Weather Oscillations 17 9 4 13-Apr-MDA - EarthSat 14 7 3 7-Apr-AccuWeather 14 8 4 7-Apr-NOAA Normal (1981-2010) 12 7 3-The Weather Co Normal (1950-2015) 12 7 3-The Weather Co Normal (1995-2015) 15 8 3-TSR Normal (1950-2015) 11 6 3-TSR Normal (2006-2015) 14 6 3-* The named tropical storms may or may not include Alex, which formed in January 2016.(Reporting by Scott DiSavino in New York; Editing by Matthew Lewis)

Polish minister says missile shield no threat to Russia: report-[Reuters]-May 29, 2016-yahoonews
WARSAW (Reuters) - The U.S. missile shield to be located in Poland does not pose a threat to Russia's security, Poland's state-run news agency PAP quoted Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski as saying on Sunday.Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday that Poland and Romania could find themselves in the sights of Russian rockets because they are hosting elements of a U.S. missile shield that Moscow considers a threat to its security."President Putin should know very well that the anti-missile shield in Poland has no relevance to Russian security. This system is to defend Europe from a missile attack from the Middle East," Waszykowski told PAP in an interview published on Sunday."However, the military presence (in Poland) of the Americans and multinational NATO forces is a response to indeed aggressive behavior by the Russian authorities, who are frightening us. This will be a presence of a defensive nature, not posing a threat to Russia."(Reporting by Agnieszka Barteczko; Editing by Greg Mahlich; Editing by Greg Mahlich)
Conservatives drop same sex marriage ban in refresh of party, policy-[CP]-May 28, 2016-yahoonews
VANCOUVER - Conservatives emerged from a spirited convention Saturday, ties to many of their past policies and politics severed after days of debate that many say is proof that the party is on the rebound. The party wiped a policy opposing same sex marriage off its books Saturday and adopted another supporting a more permissive approach to marijuana after 2 1/2 days of introspection and intense public debate."It's a demonstration of the maturation of our party," former Tory cabinet minister Peter MacKay said of the marriage resolution."We're clearly recognizing the law, the realities of people's lives and I'm heartened by the very open transparent way in which we dealt with this issue."The vote followed emotional debates in policy workshops Friday and on the floor Saturday with some social conservatives arguing that any leadership candidate who supported it would automatically lose their vote. That didn't faze candidate and MP Maxime Bernier, who spoke in favour of the motion from the convention floor."It's about freedom and respect. It's about us and telling Canadians that you can love who you want and that you can be in love," he said. But if party members were listening to former leader Stephen Harper's speech Thursday night about the need to stay true to Conservative principles of faith, family and community, then they can't support it, argued Manitoba MP Ted Falk."This motion is an attack on our values and principles," he said.Harper had addressed the over 2,000 delegates to the convention Thursday night calling on them to remain united on the road to the 2019 election, taking the stage to AC/DC's Thunderstuck, a song that was a classic for him on his many political campaigns. The 2015 campaign failed in part because its reliance on the same old themes and approaches of the past, delegates had heard during a packed session that served as a moment of catharsis for many in the party's grassroots who told party leaders they had felt sidelines and ignored during the election. Those complaints were heard loud and clear, said MP Erin O'Toole."We've had some difficult discussions, we've had some frustrations with the campaign," he said."But that's how we become stronger as a party."One argument party officials heard was that they'd put forward no new policy ideas during the campaign and that their ads and attacks on opposition parties were stale.A key line of attack against the Liberals had been that party's plan to decriminalize marijuana. The Tories routinely argued it was going to result in pot being sold to children from corner shops. But the Liberals are moving ahead with that plan and the Tories need to change their approach, delegates argued.A resolution that supported peace officers issuing tickets for small amounts of possession was supported by members including former Toronto police chief and cabinet minister Julian Fantino on Friday. It passed by the broader membership in a vote of 718-491.Policy resolutions are not binding on political leaders but are often used to help shape platforms. The Conservatives will next gather in May 2017 to choose a new leader.Follow @StephanieLevitz
Rae finds Trudeau's praise for Stephen Harper hard to swallow-[CP]-May 29, 2016-yahoonews
WINNIPEG - Prime Minister Justin Trudeau offered rare praise Saturday for Conservative predecessor Stephen Harper but at least one Liberal elder statesman found it a bit hard to swallow.Bob Rae was caught on video sticking two fingers in his mouth, pretending to gag.The former interim Liberal leader later refused to comment on his gesture, which was caught on video by a reporter for The Canadian Press. However later he posted an apology on Twitter calling it "a joke in poor taste that I regret very much."The video, posted on Twitter, quickly made the rounds at the Liberal national convention, provoking both hilarity and consternation.Rae's gag reflex was stimulated during a speech by Trudeau to the convention, the first such gathering since the Liberals defeated Harper's Conservatives in last fall's election. After taking a few pokes at the Tories, who were simultaneously holding their own convention in Vancouver, Trudeau turned serious."We need to remember that even though they may be our opponents, they're not our enemies. They're our neighbours and our friends," he said."So, I want to take a moment. You see, there are only a handful of people alive who know what it's like to do this job ... And I can tell you, even if you weren't a fan of his politics, there can be no doubting Stephen Harper's commitment to our country."Trudeau asked Liberals to join him in thanking Harper, who has let it be known he will retire from politics over the summer, for "his many years of public service."Trudeau, the eldest son of former prime minister Pierre Trudeau, said he's among the few who know first hand that it's not easy to be part of a prime minister's family. So he also thanked Harper's wife, Laureen, and his children, Ben and Rachel, for "standing with him through thick and thin."Trudeau was not all sweetness and light when it came to the Conservatives, however. He also noted that the Tories had been debating at their convention whether to delete the party's policy on marriage being the union between one man and one woman."Among other things, they're debating the merits of marriage equality. In 2016. More than a decade after we made same-sex marriage legal in Canada," Trudeau said to gales of laughter."Well, better late than never, right? Who knows, ten years from now they might finally be willing to admit that climate change is real. Or that tax cuts for rich people don't help the middle class,. Or that government shouldn't legislate what women are allowed to wear on their heads."The Conservatives voted Saturday to drop the sections of its policy opposing same-sex marriage.
Ont. Premier Kathleen Wynne accepts apology from Alberta Wildrose party member-[The Canadian Press]-May 28, 2016-yahoonews
WINNIPEG - Kathleen Wynne wonders whether a man would have faced the same kind of vicious attack that was aimed at her by a member of Alberta's Wildrose party. The Ontario premier says she accepts the Opposition party's apology but suggests a man might not have been treated the same way.Wynne was a visitor in the Alberta legislature Thursday, at the invitation of Premier Rachel Notley, when Wildrose finance critic Derek Fildebrandt launched an attack on her economic management. He called Ontario a fiscal basket case.Later, Fildebrandt appeared to personally insult the openly gay premier when he responded to a commenter on his Facebook page who congratulated him for "telling the truth about Mr. Wynne or whatever the hell she identifies as."Fildebrandt said he was "proud" to have the commenter as a constituent. That earned him a suspension from the Wildrose caucus, although Fildebrandt contended he'd misread the supporter's comment and had not intended a personal attack on the premier's sexual orientation."Yes, I accept the apology," Wynne said Saturday during a session on women in politics at the federal Liberal party's national convention."But, you know, I think it was an interesting confluence of things. There's a woman premier in Alberta, I'm there as a woman, we're talking about climate change."And I think the attack, the viciousness of the attack, had a particular quality to it. So, I will just say we need to pay attention to that."Wynne acknowledged that there are "vicious women in politics" as well but she "suspects" a female politician wouldn't have launched the same kind of attack.Fildebrandt, meanwhile, issued a statement Saturday in response to his Wildrose caucus suspension over the Facebook comment."My colleagues know that those views do not reflect my own opinion and they recognize that I made an honest mistake, so I was surprised by this decision. I accept this decision," Fildebrandt wrote in the statement, which was posted on Facebook.Fildebrandt wrote that he receives an average of 800 comments on his public Facebook page daily and that he does his best to respond personally."As I've already stated publicly, I did not read a comment posted to my page by a constituent as carefully as I should have."

OZONE DEPLETION JUDGEMENT ON THE EARTH DUE TO SIN
ISAIAH 30:26-27
26 Moreover the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be sevenfold,(7X OR 7-DEGREES HOTTER) as the light of seven days, in the day that the LORD bindeth up the breach of his people,(ISRAEL) and healeth the stroke of their wound.
27 Behold, the name of the LORD cometh from far, burning with his anger, and the burden thereof is heavy: his lips are full of indignation, and his tongue as a devouring fire:
MATTHEW 24:21-22,29
21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
22 And except those days should be shortened,(DAY LIGHT HOURS SHORTENED) there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake (ISRAELS SAKE) those days shall be shortened (Daylight hours shortened)(THE ASTEROID HITS EARTH HERE)
29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
REVELATION 16:7-9
7 And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.
8 And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire.
9 And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.
