FROM 6:25AM TO 7:35AM THIS MORNING.THE TORONTO TRANSIT COMMISSION SUBWAY SYSTEM WAS ALL SHUT DOWN FOR AN HOUR AND TEN MINUTES DUE TO NO COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS WORKING.THERE SAYING WITH ALL THE STORMS IN TORONTO OVER NIGHT.THERE WAS QUITE A FEW POWER SURGES OVER NIGHT. AND THIS IS WHAT MIGHT HAVE CAUSE THE COMMUNI CATION SYSTEMS OF ALL THE SUBWAY SYSTEMS TO FAIL.ALL 4 LINES WERE AFFECTED. CAUSING AT LEAST A MILLION PEOPLE TO SCAMBLE TO GET OTHER MEANS OF TRANSPORT ATION TO THEIR JOBS.THE SHUTTLE BUSES WERE ALSO SHUT DOWN AS THEY COULD NOT COMMUNICATE WITH EACH OTHER ALSO.THE ROOTS WILL BE DELAYED AT LEAST A HALF HOUR FOR A FEW HOURS.TILL THE SUBWAY CAN GET BACK TO NORMAL. TORONTO - Thousands of commuters in Toronto were stranded for more than an hour during the morning rush as the city's subway service shut down due to communication problems.The subway system shut down around 6:30 a.m. Monday and resumed at about 7:45 a.m.Brad Ross, a spokesman with the Toronto Transit Commission, explained the problems while the subways ground to a halt: "The subway operators cannot communicate with each other or with the controllers, so we have to shut it down."Shuttle buses didn't operate during the closure because it was not possible to replace the subway's capacity with buses.
The TTC evacuated its subway stations, which left crowd problems above ground on a rainy morning — something Toronto police were helping control.
