The scroll was written in the memory of hundreds of thousands of IDF soldiers, partisan fighters, and Jews who risked their lives in the war against the Nazis and collaborators. Make that a rough month, even a rough year. Would you believe a rough century? But lately, if you’re Jewish, it’s been especially hard. It’s been one damned thing after another, and now, as if it couldn’t get any worse, they tried to wipe Jerusalem off the Jewish map. The Supreme Court, to refresh, ruled that Jerusalem is not the capital of Israel, or any part of the Jewish State.Jerusalem was always the prize. Read this, especially pages 280 to 281 to see how the double cross gets done.The voting ran 6 to 3, and the three Jewish Justices sided with the majority. Proof once again that the phrase “Court Jew” is no compliment.The nightmare (for me) began with a phone call from Israel: “Did you hear what the Supreme Court did?”Can’t trust the three Jewish judges, but two Italians tried to come to Jerusalem’s rescue – but failed.“Don’t tell me.”But he told me and my first response went like this: “Figures. You guys have got to do something about your High Court. They’re a bunch of…”“No! Your High Court. The Supreme Court of the United States, for crying out loud.”This also figures. They usually cave for Obama, as they did for his national healthcare program.For Jerusalem, the three who dissented were Chief Justice Roberts, Justices Alito and Scalia.Can’t trust the three Jewish judges, but two Italians tried to come to Jerusalem’s rescue – but failed.So they’re still dancing in Ramallah, whooping it up at The New York Times and wherever anti-Semites can be found.It was a good day to be Mahmoud Abbas or Mahmoud anybody.White House spokesman Josh Earnest told the press that Mr. Obama was happy with the Court’s decision.Jerusalem, first established by King David as Israel’s capital 3,000 years ago, is ripe for the taking as long as you’re not Jewish, like David.Hamas is welcome to it, as is Fatah, Islamic Jihad, and Islamic State – though nobody says it quite that way.But some of us are not stupid. We do not need everything spelled out.So the Supreme Court of the Unites States declared Jerusalem an orphan, no father, no mother, and, to their thinking, what else is beside the point? That history begins with the Hebrew Bible, the Torah, and that both Christianity and Islam were birthed from Jewish Scriptures, which places Jerusalem as the undivided, eternal capital of Israel. They may try to delete history but it can’t be done. Their liturgy repeatedly bequeaths Jewish preeminence over Jerusalem.Their books are taken from our Book and even our prophets they can’t deny. The paperwork’s been done.Nor can they deny the prophecies that place Jerusalem in Jewish hands. To begrudge Israel’s full rights to Jerusalem is to forget that today’s shekel is the same currency Bathsheba used to buy Solomon a new pair of shoes when she went shopping for her young son in the City her husband built.Which brings us to an uncomfortable moment. Yes, Obama was pleased with the Supreme Court’s decision. What about the Prime Minister of Israel? Surely Benjamin Netanyahu was not pleased. In speech after speech he avows Jerusalem as Israel’s eternal capital. Nice words.Meanwhile, however, since 2013 the Netanyahu government has imposed a construction freeze upon eastern Jerusalem.No Jewish homes may be built in the vicinity where Solomon built the Temple and where David wrote the Book of Psalms…in Hebrew.So, we have no choice but to assume that Israel’s leadership itself doubts its jurisdiction over its own capital.How then can anyone expect the United States Supreme Court to think and act differently? Until Israel’s leaders proclaim decisively and universally that it’s Jerusalem or bust, the losing streak will continue.To keep Jerusalem safe, it’s time for Israel to forget the kindness of strangers. We salute and appreciate you, and your friendship will be well remembered.""I am a seventh generation Jerusalemite, and even though I was born nine years before the State of Israel was established, I was born in Jerusalem, and I am Israeli," he said, in a not so subtle reference to the ruling overturning a Congressional law that would have US President Barack Obama recognize the Israeli capital as such.Turning his attention to the regional chaos embodied by Iran's nuclear program and Syria's internecine civil war, the president said, "it was commonly thought that the enemy of your enemy was your friend.""However, we know that this is no longer necessarily the case. For us it is not a theoretical or hypothetical issue. This is a very real threat to the citizens of Israel - Jews, Muslims, and Christians alike," he added.In response, Dempsey said, "I am happy to back in Israel, I am here to gain a better understanding with our counterparts in the IDF, of the threats and security challenges, and of what we can do to address them.""While this is my sixth time here, my Israeli counterpart has been to America eight times. The Palestinian Authority (PA) on Monday welcomed the decision of the United States Supreme Court to reject an appeal to have Menachem Binyamin Zivotofsky's passport list "Jerusalem, Israel" as his place of birth, in a key case regarding the city's status as Israel's capital.Nabil Abu Rudeineh, a spokesman for PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, said that the Supreme Court's decision is consistent with the decisions of international institutions, the UN Security Council and the General Assembly.He further stated that "the decision sends an obvious message that Israel is an occupying power of East al-Quds (eastern Jerusalem -ed.), the West Bank (Judea and Samaria -ed.) and the Gaza Strip."In its decision, the Supreme Court on Monday sided with President Barack Obama and criticized Congress for "overstepping its bounds" when it tried to press Obama to have Zivotofsky's passport list "Jerusalem, Israel" as his place of birth.By a 6-3 majority, the Supreme Court struck down a law from 2002 which requires the State Department to recognize Jerusalem as part of Israel, reports National Journal.Both the administrations of Obama and George W. Bush refused to implement the law; the eastern part of the 3,000-year-old capital of the Jewish state was liberated in the 1967 Six Day War.As it stands currently, a child born in Jerusalem has "Jerusalem" listed on their American passport without a country. Official U.S. policy has been not to recognize any sovereignty on either side over Jerusalem ever since the Truman administration.Immigration Absorption Minister Ze'ev Elkin (Likud) reacted to the decision, noting that Jerusalem is the capital of the Jewish state and "will remain that for eternity."Elkin, whose portfolio includes Jerusalem, called on the Obama administration to accept "the simple fact that is a fundament of the Jewish heritage, and incidentally of Christian heritage as well - Jerusalem is the heart of the Land of Israel, and the eternal capital of the State of Israel!"Also responding to the decision was Deputy Defense Minister Rabbi Eli Ben-Dahan (Jewish Home), who lives in the southeastern Jerusalem neighborhood of Har Homa."United Jerusalem is the eternal capital of the Jewish people and the center of the world," asserted Ben-Dahan. The White House on Tuesday relished the US Supreme Court ruling the day before, which sided with US President Barack Obama in striking down a Congressional law calling to have Jerusalem recognized as part of Israel on American passports."We welcome the Supreme Court’s important decision yesterday in Zivotofsky v. Kerry, which reaffirms the long-established authority of the president to recognize foreign states, their governments, and their territorial boundaries," White House press secretary Josh Earnest said in a statement.Celebrating the powers granted to the president by the ruling, he added, "the court’s decision upholds the president’s long-standing authority to make these sensitive recognition determinations as part of his conduct of diplomacy and foreign policy."The 3,000-year-old capital of the Jewish people has not been recognized as being in the sovereign territory of Israel by a US president since being liberated by the Jewish state in the 1967 Six Day War. Likewise the American Embassy is still located in Tel Aviv.According to Earnest, the Supreme Court decision "confirms that the president’s recognition determinations should be accurately reflected in official documents and sensitive diplomatic communications, including passports."The Obama administration, like the administration of former President George W. Bush, has opposed the Congressional law which was passed in 2002 and called for US passports of citizens born in Jerusalem to list their birth country as Israel, saying by recognizing Jerusalem as part of Israel it would lose credibility as an "impartial broker" in peace talks.Ari and Naomi Zivotofsky, the parents who years ago filed the case that the Supreme Court ruled on, told Arutz Sheva on Tuesday, "we expected the courts in the United States to be about more than politics. Perhaps the result shows that that assumption is not correct, but we thought that the legal system is unrelated to the political system."They added, "a passport is just a symbol of the central problem here, which is very large, due to the United States not recognizing the sovereignty of the State of Israel over any part of Jerusalem."
