Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is anticipated to keep the Foreign Ministry for himself, as pressure for posts is reaching a peak in his Likud party ahead of the swearing in of the new coalition government next Wednesday.Yedioth Aharonoth reports that Netanyahu's move on the foreign portfolio is an attempt to ensure stability and control in the narrow 61 MK government, the smallest number possible for a majority coalition.Avigdor Liberman of Yisrael Beytenu had been promised to continue as foreign minister before he announced he would not join the coalition.The decision on the Foreign Ministry has not been announced yet, as Netanyahu has kept his decisions on ministerial allotments secret reportedly in order to pressure Likud MKs to vote on Monday to cancel the law limiting the maximal number of ministers to 18, a law passed by Yair Lapid. An appointment for Hotovely would be a historic first for Israel – as she would be the first observant woman to be appointed to a ministry.Known for her right-wing views, Hotovely has been credited with helping to bring votes in to the Likud during the last, crucial days of the campaign, from Jewish Home and Shas. Hotovely helped drive home the point among religious Zionist voters that without a solid showing, Netanyahu would be unlikely to be chosen to form the government, and right-wing parties would find themselves out in the cold. As a result, Netanyahu garnered tens of thousands of last-minute votes, with Likud winning 30 seats, substantially more than the 23 to 25 the last polls before the March 17th elections showed the party getting.After the election, Netanyahu met with Hotovely to thank her for her work. Hotovely led the party's campaign in Judea and Samaria, where 15% more voters chose Likud in this year's election than did in 2013.Sources in the Likud said that Hotovely would likely be named Minister of Science and Technology. She also visited the forested areas of Gush Etzion, and heard about how officials were maintaining the forest, and especially how they battled attempts by Arabs to burn the forest down.Boker's husband, Brig.-Gen. Lior Boker, a police officer, was among the 44 police and firefighters killed in the Carmel Forest fire in 2010.Nava Boker also visited several schools in the area, meeting with school officials, teachers, and students to get an impression of how classes are taught. According to coalition agreements, the new government to be sworn in next Wednesday is obligated to arrange the legal status of Jewish buildings in Judea and Samaria on land that was allegedly privately owned by Arabs.At the request of Jewish Home chairperson Naftali Bennett in coalition talks, Cabinet Secretary Avichai Mandelblit will head a special team that will draft a plan to legalize buildings and neighborhoods in Judea and Samaria that were established with government involvement and under the agreement of the state.The team, which will be established within a month of the new government being sworn in, is to submit its outline within 60 days of being formed.It will consist of Mandelblit, as well as professional representatives of Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon (Likud), and Jewish Home MKs Uri Ariel and Ayelet Shaked, who are to be appointed agriculture and justice minister respectively.In the coalition agreement between Likud and Jewish Home, the government will be obligated to act to implement the findings of the team.The talk of legalizing the buildings and communities comes after the NGO Regavim presented MKs with aerial maps showing 2,026 homes in Judea and Samaria that are in danger of demolition due to anticipated petitions by radical leftist groups.While Jewish Home's coalition deal with Likud included establishing the team to legalize homes, it appears to have made no mention of the Jewish construction freeze, in an apparent abandonment of an earlier demand to lift the freeze.The covert freeze on building has reportedly been in place since late 2013, and has continued since then in Judea, Samaria and eastern Jerusalem, aside from a handful of building announcements in the capital, even as Jewish Home was in the last coalition government and Ariel served as housing minister.The Jewish presence in the region has been met with international criticism, but the 2012 Levy Report conclusively proved that presence is legal according to international law.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is anticipated to keep the Foreign Ministry for himself, as pressure for posts is reaching a peak in his Likud party ahead of the swearing in of the new coalition government next Wednesday.Yedioth Aharonoth reports that Netanyahu's move on the foreign portfolio is an attempt to ensure stability and control in the narrow 61 MK government, the smallest number possible for a majority coalition.Avigdor Liberman of Yisrael Beytenu had been promised to continue as foreign minister before he announced he would not join the coalition.The decision on the Foreign Ministry has not been announced yet, as Netanyahu has kept his decisions on ministerial allotments secret reportedly in order to pressure Likud MKs to vote on Monday to cancel the law limiting the maximal number of ministers to 18, a law passed by Yair Lapid. Some ministers are only to be able to enter their posts after the law is changed.Despite Netanyahu's secrecy, some Likud appointments are already known.Minister Yisrael Katz is to continue as transportation minister, and Moshe Ya'alon is to remain defense minister.But other senior Likud MKs are said to be threatening Netanyahu to receive meaningful spots, including Gilad Erdan, Benny Begin, Yuval Steinitz and Silvan Shalom.Erdan hopes to be public security minister and to receive a spot on the Security Cabinet, as well as to retain his spot at the Interior Ministry with limited authorities not including the construction and planning administration that has been moved to Kulanu chairperson Moshe Kahlon's Finance Ministry.Despite being a senior confidant of Netanyahu, current Intelligence Minister Yuval Steinitz is not expected to receive an improved position, and neither is Negev and Galilee Minister Silvan Shalom, given that there are no more senior positions available than the ones they currently hold.Shalom threatened not to support the bill expanding the number of ministries on Monday unless he is appointed foreign minister, saying if he doesn't receive it "I'm out," possibly indicating he will not support either the bill or the government. Sources in the Foreign Ministry told Arutz Sheva they are furious at Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's apparent decision to keep the foreign portfolio in his own hands, not appointing a minister so as to leave open the option of bringing in new coalition members later on."It's unthinkable that the most important ministry in the state of Israel, which deals with its foreign relations, will be a stepson of the prime minister, and be managed without a guiding hand and without a serving minister," the sources said. "We call on the prime minister to return to the ministry its power, instead of weakening it."Former Deputy Foreign Minister and Ambassador to the US Danny Ayalon told Arutz Sheva that, "unfortunately, we see prime ministers throughout the generations not treating the foreign ministry as it should be, and it's a shame.""The clerks have been bitter for years, and in effect over the last six years they didn't have a minister, and the ministry has essentially been disbanded," said Ayalon, explaining that relations with the US are being managed by the Prime Minister's Office, the Iranian nuclear issue is being dealt with by the Mossad and National Security Council, and "the Palestinian issue also was taken from the ministry's responsibility."Explaining the possible fallout from Netanyahu's actions, Ayalon said, "there's no problem that a ministry like this will function without a minister in a full-time position, the question is how much he (Netanyahu) will be able to dedicate to the matter and how much importance he will give the ministry.""When the prime minister is the foreign minister he can give the ministry a lot of power, but the clerks apparently fear he will continue to manage foreign relations from other places," he noted, indicating the Prime Minister's Office and other institutions. A 24-year-old Jewish male about to be married Sunday night was arrested earlier this morning on suspicion of praying while on a visit to the Temple Mount.The groom ascended to the Mount in honor of his wedding day - an ancient Jewish tradition dating back to the First Temple period, nearly 3,000 years ago.He was later arrested near the Temple Mount's exit, after a policeman, who had accompanied the man's group of Jewish visitors to the site, claimed the future groom said a prayer.Jewish prayer has been forbidden at Judaism's holiest site by the Jordanian Waqf which maintains de facto control of the Mount.Honenu attorney Rehavia Piltz was summoned to the Merhav David police station in Jerusalem in order to to ensure the quick release of the groom, so he could continue preparations for his upcoming nuptials."Arresting a Jewish groom on his wedding day, on suspicion of praying at the Jewish people's holiest site, is a grave misstep which belies the loss of a moral compass and a loss of the values for which we returned to Israel after 2,000 years of exile," Honenu asserted."When you look at the relationship between the police and Arab rioters and the [police's] helplessness in front of them, this [misstep] is sharpened even more."

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is in the process of deciding which Likud MKs to “reward” with a ministerial position – and among those MKs is likely to be Tzipi Hotovely. An appointment for Hotovely would be a historic first for Israel – as she would be the first observant woman to be appointed to a ministry.Known for her right-wing views, Hotovely has been credited with helping to bring votes in to the Likud during the last, crucial days of the campaign, from Jewish Home and Shas. Hotovely helped drive home the point among religious Zionist voters that without a solid showing, Netanyahu would be unlikely to be chosen to form the government, and right-wing parties would find themselves out in the cold. As a result, Netanyahu garnered tens of thousands of last-minute votes, with Likud winning 30 seats, substantially more than the 23 to 25 the last polls before the March 17th elections showed the party getting.After the election, Netanyahu met with Hotovely to thank her for her work. Hotovely led the party's campaign in Judea and Samaria, where 15% more voters chose Likud in this year's election than did in 2013.Sources in the Likud said that Hotovely would likely be named Minister of Science and Technology. She had requested that she be given the Tourism Ministry, which, she said, would allow her to enhance the ties between Israel and Jewish communities around the world.Hotovely's political career began in 2009 when Netanyahu singled her out as a favored candidate for the Knesset, after seeing her appearances on a television show devoted to political debates.

Nava Boker, one of the Likud's new MKs, made her political agenda clear Sunday – which includes the annexation of Gush Etzion – the Etzion Bloc south of Jerusalem – as a top priority.Boker visited the region Sunday, taking in the historic Herodion site, where Rome's Herod constructed a summer palace, as well as the Oz VeGaon outpost, which was established in memory of the three teens murdered in Gush Etzion last year. The murder of the teens – Eyal Yifrah, Naftali Frenkel, and Gilad Sha'ar – was a trigger of last summer's Operation Protective Edge.Two thousand plus years after it was built, Herodion still impresses, and among the things Boker was most impressed by was the extensive infrastructure work that was done on the mountain to enable Herod and his entourage to live their accustomed luxurious life while they vacationed. She also examined a more modern infrastructure project, the road that was recently paved between Har Homa and Teko'a in eastern Gush Etzion.At Oz Vegaon, Boker was told about the educational and cultural activities that are held there weekly, and witnessed the dedication of youths who set up the site and maintain it on a regular basis. She also visited the forested areas of Gush Etzion, and heard about how officials were maintaining the forest, and especially how they battled attempts by Arabs to burn the forest down.Boker's husband, Brig.-Gen. Lior Boker, a police officer, was among the 44 police and firefighters killed in the Carmel Forest fire in 2010.Nava Boker also visited several schools in the area, meeting with school officials, teachers, and students to get an impression of how classes are taught. In addition, she met with ambulance, fire, and other rescue officials.Boker said she would be back to see more sights – but that meanwhile, she was planning on advancing legislation to annex the region to Israel. Gush Etzion Regional head Davidi Perl thanked Boker for the visit and her support, saying that her visit showed “a strong connection to the land and its people.”

MK Mickey Zohar (Likud) called to ban the Oslo Accords on Friday, after taking a tour of the Samaria region.Zohar visited the Ariel area, including the Barkan industrial zone, a winery in Rehelim, the community of Einav, and the hills of Itamar.Zohar also visited Elon Moreh and Har Kabir, where he met with Benny Katzover, a leader of the Gush Emunim movement; and Har Bracha, where he met with the Deputy chief of the Samaria Regional Council, Yossi Dagan.The MK stated at the end of the visit that Likud is duty-bound to protect, and promote the development of, Judea-Samaria."All those who voted for Likud, indicated the desire to protect the land of Israel," Zohar said. "Therefore, I think we should call on the Prime Minister to renew and strengthen the construction in Judea and Samaria.""The Oslo Accords have exhausted themselves and we have to explain to the international bodies that do not exist for us," he added.Yossi Dagan said that continued construction in Judea-Samaria should be on the top of the government's priority list, calling "not for words, but deeds.""We will not give up the justified demand for the fundamental development of the land here, proportional to the Jews living here and the space available," he added."I have a real sense that, during this government, it will be possible to settle Judea-Samaria, it will be possible to cancel the hallucinatory Oslo Accords and do for the people of Israel and the Land of Israel and the Torah of Israe one simple action: expanding the number of Jews in Judea and Samaria," Zohar concluded. According to coalition agreements, the new government to be sworn in next Wednesday is obligated to arrange the legal status of Jewish buildings in Judea and Samaria on land that was allegedly privately owned by Arabs.At the request of Jewish Home chairperson Naftali Bennett in coalition talks, Cabinet Secretary Avichai Mandelblit will head a special team that will draft a plan to legalize buildings and neighborhoods in Judea and Samaria that were established with government involvement and under the agreement of the state.The team, which will be established within a month of the new government being sworn in, is to submit its outline within 60 days of being formed.It will consist of Mandelblit, as well as professional representatives of Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon (Likud), and Jewish Home MKs Uri Ariel and Ayelet Shaked, who are to be appointed agriculture and justice minister respectively.In the coalition agreement between Likud and Jewish Home, the government will be obligated to act to implement the findings of the team.The talk of legalizing the buildings and communities comes after the NGO Regavim presented MKs with aerial maps showing 2,026 homes in Judea and Samaria that are in danger of demolition due to anticipated petitions by radical leftist groups.While Jewish Home's coalition deal with Likud included establishing the team to legalize homes, it appears to have made no mention of the Jewish construction freeze, in an apparent abandonment of an earlier demand to lift the freeze.The covert freeze on building has reportedly been in place since late 2013, and has continued since then in Judea, Samaria and eastern Jerusalem, aside from a handful of building announcements in the capital, even as Jewish Home was in the last coalition government and Ariel served as housing minister.The Jewish presence in the region has been met with international criticism, but the 2012 Levy Report conclusively proved that presence is legal according to international law.
